I’ve always loved reading. It can
take you to so many places, tell you funny tales, inform you with
mind-blowing facts, put you in someone else’s place, and so much
more! In fact, my whole school loves reading! One day, our
principal, Mr. Pleshe, invited all the teachers and classes out to
the P. E. court. Everyone knew it had something to do with reading,
but no one knew the teachers were going to dress up in costumes!
Yeah, that’s right, teachers dressed in costumes!
Each teacher dressed like their
favorite character in their favorite story. So, technically, I saw
Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, and…as the grand
finale…drum roll, please…the drama teacher, Mr. Topper, as the
Tortoise, and the dance teacher, Mrs. Hobbs, as the Hare!
They actually raced each other
like they did in the story. And if you have no idea what story
I’m talking about, it’s The Rabbit and the Hare! Later on in the
Reading Rally, Mr. Pleshe announced that we could get a special
surprise if we read a lot of books and took Reading Counts quizzes
(Reading Counts is a special program where you can take a quiz on a
story you’ve read).
He said that it had to do with our
new garden. Of course! I thought. The new garden Mrs. Weller’s
gifted classes have been working on. He said that if we earned
10,000 points, he would buy us rabbits that would live in the
garden! How cool! He said that with all the books the school has
read so far, he would buy us one bunny for the Rabbitat. We quickly
reached our goal of 10,000 points.
Now we have our new friends living
in the rabbitat. Crazy, huh?
